Dyna-Glo Charcoal Offset Smoker Review

Dyna-Glo Charcoal Offset Smoker Is it any good?

Dyna-Glo charcoal offset smoker review. Could this be a good choice for you? In this review i cover all the information i can find, good and bad,so you can make an informed decision as to consider it or not. Buying a cheap barbecue grill isn’t for the faint at heart. Lets look at this grill and i will tell you what i found.

Product Details

  1. Offset fire box designed to burn charcoal
  2. Heavy gage steel charcoal and wood tray which is porcelain enamel coated
  3. 6 Adjustable cooking grates 784 inches of cooking area
  4. Dual door design keeps heat loss down
  5. Heavy duty steel
  6. MFG Part # : DGO1176BDC-D

This grill has 6 adjustable  height cooking grates which will allow you to take out some grates to allow you to cook things like a whole turkey. This dyna-glow charcoal offset smoker is a vertical smoker.

Offset firebox Design

The grill indeed does have an offset firebox which after assembly, you fire it up for the first time. You will find it leaks and smoke comes out where it attaches to the grill. There is a fix for that by getting high temperature calk that will withstand temps up to 500 degrees. That will fix that problem.

Dual Door Design

The dyna-glow grill is very nice looking with its dual door design. You will find the first time you use the grill it will leak smoke and you will find its hard to maintain 250 degrees heat. The fix to that is to buy a gasket and glue that goes on a wood burning stove. Put it on both doors and then you will get more consistent  heat.

Heavy Duty Steel

Ok,their idea of heavy duty steel and my idea of it isn’t the same. The steel is thin. Its going to be very important to condition this grill according to the instructions that come in the box.  The thin steel of the grill in cold days will make it hard to keep the temperature high. The grill is made in China also.

Powder Coated Finish

If this grill is powder coated it must be thin. Most reviews are critical of the finish. I would condition this grill and then buy wood burning stove paint which is high temperature paint and paint that sucker. Also keep it under a tarp or grill cover. Its very important to keep any barbecue grill out of the weather. But especially this one. If it starts rusting it wont last long.

The Good

The good about the dyna-glow is that will the right fixes this grill can actually do a good job smoking barbecue. Its just a cheap product and if you do the suggestions to upgrade the grill  you should be reasonably happy with it.

The Bad

If you have a budget big enough to afford a better smoker grill you should get it instead. The grill has thin steel walls and keeping rust off is very important. I don’t believe in sugar coating a product just to  get you to buy it. There were many reviews that were unhappy with this smoker grill product. The thermometer on the front of the smoker is not a good one.It needs to be replaced before you fire the grill up. Some people didn’t like the vents on the charcoal smoker. You just cant fire up a new grill and know how to smoke food with out using it a few times and learning how to regulate the heat and smoke.

The Conclusion

The vertical smoker can smoke a lot of food at one time. If you put food close to the firebox you would need to rotate the food to keep from drying out the food on the bottom next to the firebox. You can use wood chips in this grill which will really add flavor. To be happy with this dyna-glow smoker you need to buy a charcoal chimney,so you can get the charcoal red hot before putting them in the grill. Also during the cooking process its good to keep charcoal and wood chips ready to use. To cook brisket or other large meat you cant use all the racks. The smoker weighs over 70 pounds and is  over 4 feet tall. So with all the corrections i listed you would have a nice smoker grill to cook great tasting barbecue. But i would recommend getting a better smoker than this one. Thanks for reading this Dyna-Glo Charcoal Offset Smoker Review. Click below for more information. Click here for more information.

You bet Bryant, its Lowes.com. Home depot should have it too. I looked at Lowes and the cost was a little over $7.00. I would also advise you to get high temperature caulk and caulk around the firebox. Also getting fire bricks will improve the Dyna-glow offset smoker’s temperature. I have spoken with others who own one and they did the improvements and loved the grill. Thanks for your comments.

Where do you suggest I place the bricks? If you had picks you could share it would really be nice.

    Thanks in Advance, Bryant.
